partnered to bring you the Ultimate in Outdoor Experiential Learn
St. Lawrence Islands National Park and Gananoque Boat Line bring you "ISLAND QUEST"; an experiential learning program on a national park island. The Gananoque Boat Line ferries the school group from Ivy Lea to Georgina Island in the heart of the 1000 Islands. Upon arrival students are given instructions to find the different clues hidden on the island that eventually lead the group back to the boat. If all questions are answered correctly, passage back to the mainland is granted. The program is designed for grades 7 and 9, linking to the Ontario Geography curriculum. Students will learn about the sensitive Thousand Islands eco-system, understand that National Parks represent different examples of Canada's natural landscapes and heritage, and learn how Parks Canada is the guardian of our National Parks.
Students are assigned teams to hike the island and discover its features and clues. With the aid of a map, riddles, compass and binoculars they set out on their quest. Knowledgeable Parks Canada interpreters assist the students as they explore the island trails, solve the riddles and complete the quest.
